1863 Henry Rifle 23" barrel. .44 caliber. Serial #3392. Marking "C.G.C." can be found at the rear of the barrel on the right side. This marking is an indication that the rifle was one of the rare Henry's that was inspected and punched for the U.S.. "C.G.C." is the U.S. Ordinance inspector's mark, which shows his approval of the gun for delivery to the U.S. The serial numbers match and can be found on the barrel, lower inside tang, on the stock under the upper tang, on the buttplate, and on the two buttplate screws. Assembly number 686 is clear and can be seen on the rear inside of the loading sleeve and on the barrel under the loading sleeve. $20,000-25,000 Provenance: Private Collection, WY. A copy of a Letter of Authenticity from George Madis (Brownsboro, TX), author of The Winchester Book, to accompany the lot along with other collector's notes.

Condition

Barrel shows some pitting and a bulge/split is visible, indicating there may have been an obstruction in the barrel at some point when fired. Stock shows some pitting/abrasions.
