Daniel Marker (1770–1842) – Lebanon County, Pennsylvania
Working in Lebanon County at the height of the Pennsylvania rifle’s evolution, Daniel Marker produced long rifles admired for their balance, precision, and refined ornamentation. His designs reflect the architecture of the Lancaster and Lebanon schools—slim stocks, expertly fitted locks, and engraved patchboxes of perfect proportion. Marker’s shop likely supplied rifles and repairs to Pennsylvania volunteers during the War of 1812, a common role for gunsmiths of the era. His surviving rifles are prized for their exceptional design and lasting representation of American craftsmanship at its finest.
