Earle E. Heikka (1910-1941) Country Doctor 12" x 25" x 9" bronze Inscribed: (c) D.E. Vance, 1977 This bronze was initially cast from an original model of a piece positioned in a diorama titled "The Blessed Event" done by Heikka in approximately 1939. $7,000-10,000 Provenance: Private Collection, Great Falls, MT. Collector's Notes detailing the history of "The Blessed Event" will accompany the lot.
The Country Doctor and Jack Rabbit (featured on the following page) bronzes both originated from a diorama that Heikka completed in the 1930s. The Diorama was titled The Blessed Event and features a stork flying ahead of the wagon as the Country Doctor was heading to deliver a baby.
It was purchased by a prominent Great Falls family who built a special space to showcase the piece.
After many years they donated the piece to the Charles Russell Museum where it currently resides.
The Diorama is illustrated on page 49 of the book E.E. Heikka by Vivian A. Paladin.
