*Union Pacific is an American Western drama released in 1939 directed by
Cecil B. DeMille. It is based on the 1936 novel Trouble Shooter by Western fiction author Ernest Haycox. The film is a story about the building of the railroad across the West and includes scenes and commentary on the effects
it had on the Native’s land and lifestyle.
The film won the first ever Palme d’Or award at the Cannes Film Festival, retrospectively given in 2002, and was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Special Effects at the 12th Annual Academy Awards.
